Background Higher education institutions across the world moved to e-learning in response to the disruptions caused by the pandemic. While e-learning has an advantage for students that they can attend to their courses from anywhere at their convenience, yet the sudden disruptive shift to e-learning during the pandemic saw students facing many challenges, which had strong ability to induce mental health issues among the students. This study aimed at examining the impact of COVID-19-induced e-learning on the university students’ stress perceptions in Oman. Results A total of 966 usable responses were received. The results showed that 96.9% (moderate stress = 82.5% and high stress = 14.4%) reported having experienced stress through e-learning during COVID-19. The results further indicated that there was a significant negative correlation between perceived stress and the students’ academic performance. The family support and institutional support were observed to have a significant effect on students’ stress perception. Conclusions Students are away from the physical campuses over a year now, continuing their courses and programs online. The numerous challenges they are facing through e-learning, together with the prevailing uncertainty, have intensified stress among them. The continued stress over time will not only affect their academic performance, but their mental and physical health as well, as the stress has proven to be one of the major causes of various physical and mental disorders. While e-learning seems to emerge as a new normal, the students require proper attention, help, and support from their families and institutions. The institutions should revisit their online courses and program delivery mechanisms, methods, and practices to ensure that students are not over stressed.
Purpose Managerial effectiveness is considered as an essential element for sustainable development and competitive advantage for organisations, and its core conceptualisation revolves around the capability of management to manage self, subordinates and relationships. However, very few research addressed this important phenomenon; this study aims to fill this gap by investigating the mediating role of Islamic work ethics between leadership styles and managerial effectiveness. Design/methodology/approach Data collection was done through a structured questionnaire, and the hypothesized relationships were tested with the help of SmartPLS. Findings Results of the statistical analysis showed that transformational and transactional leadership styles are positively associated with managerial effectiveness. Also, Islamic work ethics mediated the association between transactional leadership and managerial effectiveness, and however, no mediation effect of Islamic work ethics was found in the relationship of transformational leadership and managerial effectiveness Originality/value Although volumes of research have been conducted into the nature of management and leadership over the past 50 years or so, there have been significant shortcomings in terms of little attention having been given to the issue of managerial effectiveness, lack of generalizability of findings and lack of relevance and utility; thus, this study contributed to human resource management literature by providing a macro-level model to measure managerial effectiveness.
PurposeThis paper aims to analyze the publication structure of academic research on green innovation (GI) between 2000 and 2019.Design/methodology/approachBibliographic data on GI are extracted from the Scopus database, and then they were analyzed through VOSviewer software.FindingsThis paper analyzes 653 publications on GI from 2000 to 2019. For so doing, the study identifies the most productive countries, universities, authors, journals and the most prolific publications in GI. Besides, the study uses VOSviewer software to visualize the mapping based on co-citation, bibliographic coupling (BC) and co-occurrence of keywords.Originality/valueThe main contribution of the study is that it provides an overview of the trends and trajectories of GI, which may help the researchers and the practitioners to comprehend the trends and future research directions.
The objective of this research is to find impact of foreign direct investment on manufacturing industries in Oman. The study utilized a quantitative research method which applied primary and secondary data obtained from Oman's World Bank database (1984-2018). The primary data were collected from a research questionnaire administered to 410 respondents from nine industrial sectors, namely: Textile, Petroleum goods, Electronics, Automotive, Food & Beverages, Agriculture & Fishery, Publishing, Chemicals and Pharmaceutics. The results of this study also revealed that the spillover impacts on domestic companies, like novel technology, marketing strategies, organizational skills, money, jobs, export growth, diversifying of economy and greater competition, lead to enhanced domestic market efficiency and boosted productivity in skill-spreading host economies with the highest impact accompanied with Capital and Technology spillover.
This study is conducted in order to analyze the perception of students on use of mobile learning 3G/4G in higher education. Data has been collected through the survey data, this study comprises research questions based on the previous literature review and formulated hypotheses to check the tentative statements. Furthermore, collected data has been analysis using Kmean algorithm. Additionally, this study explore methodological gap using KMean clustering algorithm. The sample study consisted of 200 students in the department of computer science at Gomal and Qurtuba universities in Dere
This study is an attempt to analyses the impact of accounting information system in reducing costs in Jordanian banks. This study consist primary and secondary method of collecting and analysis data. This study focus on the two main objectives and three hypothesis developed on the after the in-depth study of relevant literature. The need for accounting systems increases in its regard as a mean which derives its importance and necessity from its level of contribution in improving the value chain of business organizations, it helps in providing the needs from various resources and optimally allocating them under conditions of risk and uncertainty surrounding the business environment. The accounting system is considered as one of the most important information systems that contribute to the rationalization and support of economic decisions which affect the resources and wealth of communities and hence on the welfare of individuals. The accounting system also involves a close relationship with relevant administrative process which involves several tasks and functions; thus, contributing in the improvement of the value chain of business organizations and increasing the level of goal achieving performance. The accounting systems are also used as the basis of evaluating the efforts made in various administrative levels to accomplish tasks and achieve goals.
