Resumo: A síndrome da fibromialgia (SFM), possui origem desconhecida e diagnóstico incerto, acomete milhares de pessoas principalmente mulheres, tendo como características principais: dores musculoesqueléticas associadas a distúrbio do sono e psíquicos, rigidez matinal, cefaleia crônica e alterações de humor. Fatores psicológicos e biológicos simultaneamente fazem com que o indivíduo diminua sua capacidade de saber lidar com a dor e como decorrência disso muitos apresentam sintomas de ansiedade e depressão. O objetivo desse trabalho de revisão da literatura é de reunir referências recentes sobre a fibromialgia e informar aos leitores sobre a importância de tratamentos alternativos como a massagem terapêutica e seus efeitos sendo esta conceituada como técnicas de manobras para alívio de dores em pacientes com fibromialgia, para que haja melhora na qualidade de vida dos mesmos.Palavra-chave: Massagem terapêutica; síndrome da fibromialgia; qualidade de vida. The effects of manual massage therapy in patients with fibromyalgia syndromeAbstract: Fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) is of unknown origin, an uncertain diagnosis that affects thousands of people, mainly in women, with characteristics such as: musculoskeletal pain associated with sleep and psychic disorders, morning stiffness, chronic headache and mood changes. Psychological and biological factors simultaneously cause the individual to reduce his ability to deal with pain and as a result many have symptoms of anxiety and depression The objective of this review work in the literature is to gather recent references on fibromyalgia and also to inform the Readers the importance of alternative treatments such as massage therapy and its effects being this conceptualized as maneuver techniques for pain relief in patients with fibromyalgia, so that there is improvement in their quality of life.
