We study the polar quasinormal modes of spontaneously scalarized black holes in Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet theory. In previous works we showed that a set of nodeless solutions of the fundamental branch of the model studied in [1] are stable under both radial [2] and axial perturbations [3]. Here we calculate the polar quasinormal modes and show that this set of solutions is stable against the polar perturbations as well. Thus for a certain region of the parameter space the scalarized black holes are potentially stable physically interesting objects. The spectrum of the polar quasinormal modes differs both quantitatively and qualitatively from the Schwarzschild one which offers the possibility to test the Gauss-Bonnet theory via the future gravitational wave observations.
We calculate the quasinormal modes of static spherically symmetric dilatonic Reissner-Nordström black holes for general values of the electric charge and of the dilaton coupling constant. The spectrum of quasinormal modes is composed of five families of modes: polar and axial gravitationalled modes, polar and axial electromagnetic-led modes, and polar scalar-led modes. We make a quantitative analysis of the spectrum, revealing its dependence on the electric charge and on the dilaton coupling constant. For large electric charge and large dilaton coupling, strong deviations from the Reissner-Nordström modes arise. In particular, isospectrality is strongly broken, both for the electromagnetic-led and the gravitational-led modes, for large values of the charge.
We study the impact of non-standard momentum distributions of cosmic neutrinos on the anisotropy spectrum of the cosmic microwave background and the matter power spectrum of the large scale structure. We show that the neutrino distribution has almost no unique observable imprint, as it is almost entirely degenerate with the effective number of neutrino flavours, Neff, and the neutrino mass, mν. Performing a Markov chain Monte Carlo analysis with current cosmological data, we demonstrate that the neutrino mass bound heavily depends on the assumed momentum distribution of relic neutrinos. The message of this work is simple and has to our knowledge not been pointed out clearly before: cosmology allows that neutrinos have larger masses if their average momentum is larger than that of a perfectly thermal distribution. Here we provide an example in which the mass limits are relaxed by a factor of two.
When bosonic matter in the form of a complex scalar field is added to Ellis wormholes, the phenomenon of spontaneous symmetry breaking is observed. Symmetric solutions possess full reflection symmetry with respect to the radial coordinate of the two asymptotically flat spacetime regions connected by the wormhole, whereas asymmetric solutions do not possess this symmetry. Depending on the size of the throat, at bifurcation points pairs of asymmetric solutions arise from or merge with the symmetric solutions. These asymmetric solutions are energetically favoured. When the backreaction of the boson field is taken into account, this phenomenon is retained. Moreover, in a certain region of the solution space both symmetric and asymmetric solutions exhibit a transition from single throat to double throat configurations.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
