CaYGaO 4; a Fully Ordered Novel Olivine Type Gallate. -The title compound is prepared by solid state reaction of stoichiometric amounts of Y 2O3, CaCO3, and Ga2O3 (900 C for 24 h and 1250 C for 48 h). CaYGaO 4 crystallizes in the orthorhombic space group Pnma and Z = 4 (single crystal XRD). The structure is a fully ordered variant of the olivine structure type. It contains CaO6 octahedra, which share edges to form one-dimensional chains, corner-sharing YO 6 octahedra forming puckered layers, and GaO 4 tetrahedra. Partial replacement of Ga 3+ by Fe 3+ leads to CaYGa1-xFexO4 (0 < x 0.50) solid solutions. The unit cell volume of the solid solution increases linearly with increasing Fe content. -(CLARK, R.; ZHU, S. J.; ZHENG, S.-T.; BU, X.; DERAKHSHAN*, S.; J.
