As doenças cardiovasculares (DCV) são as maiores causas de mortes no mundo. As estimativas da Organização Mundial de Saúde apontam que, em 2030, quase 23.6 milhões de pessoas morrerão de DCV. O objetivo desta pesquisa foi analisar riscos de doenças cardíacas nos alunos do programa de Educação de Jovens e Adultos (EJA) da cidade de Januária-MG. A amostra foi composta por 60 alunos com idades de 18 a 60 anos. Utilizou-se estatística descritiva e teste T de Student. Foi apontado um percentual considerado normal no índice de massa corporal (IMC) para ambos os sexos, mas as mulheres apresentaram um nível preocupante de sobrepeso (32.14%) e obesidade (7.14%). No que diz respeito à relação cintura-quadril (RCQ), os resultados apontaram um índice muito elevado nas mulheres de até 29 anos, de 30 a 39 anos e acima de 59 anos; no sexo masculino, com idade até 29 anos, 3.33% foram classificados com índice alto. Ambos os gêneros apresentaram resultados acima do ponto de corte estabelecido para o índice de conicidade (IC): 96.87% e 100%, respectivamente. São preocupantes os resultados obtidos no RCQ e IC, principalmente no público feminino. Os indicadores antropométricos analisados nesse estudo identificaram um numero elevado dos alunos do EJA com fatores de risco coronariano.
