BACKGROUND It is critical to evaluate the perception and preventive behavior of COVID-19 to formulate the optimal public health strategies for tackling the ongoing pandemic. This study aimed to enhance knowledge on the perception and preventive behavior toward COVID-19 among urban residents in Banda Aceh, Indonesia. METHODS A cross-sectional population-based survey was conducted from September to October 2020 using a structured questionnaire for the attendants of the six public health centers in Banda Aceh. Information about sociodemographic, perception, and preventive behavior toward COVID-19 were collected. The data were analyzed to find the association between the level of preventive behavior and covariates. RESULTS Among 1,067 respondents, 71.1% were female, 52.5% were aged between 40 and 60 years, 31.2% were university graduates, and >60% were unemployed with underlying diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and cardiopulmonary diseases. The responses of each statement toward COVID-19 were varied. The multivariable model of covariates showed that females had good preventive behavior toward COVID-19 (adjusted OR: 1.849, 95% CI: 1.359–2.515). Urban residents in Banda Aceh with the underlying diseases had poor preventive behavior, while those with higher educational level and perception scores were more inclined to engage in good preventive behavior. CONCLUSIONS Most urban residents in Banda Aceh showed positive perception and propensity for adopting preventive measures. Health education is necessary for susceptible residents, such as males, less educated people, and people with underlying diseases. It should be stressed on specific practices and knowledge.

BACKGROUND: Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is an infectious disease that targets the human immune system by attacking cluster of differentiation (CD)4 cells. The use of propolis in HIV patients is expected to be safe and beneficial in terms of increasing endurance and immunity by its role in increasing CD4 level. This study aimed to analyze the influence of propolis supplementation in increasing the CD4 level in anti-retroviral (ARV)-treated HIV patients.METHODS: Double-blind randomized controlled clinical trial was conducted in 50 HIV patients who took regular ARV therapy. The subjects were divided into two groups, one group was treated with ARV and propolis, while another one was given ARV and placebo. The CD4 cell count was measured during pre-treatment, in the 3rd month, in the 6th month after treatment. The level of hemoglobin, leukocyte, and platelets were also measured. The SF-12 questionnaire was used to evaluate quality of life of the subject.RESULTS: Out of 50 subjects, 43 subjects completed the study, which were 19 subjects from the propolis group and 24 subjects from the placebo group. After 3-month of treatment, there was a statistically significant difference in the incrwase of CD 44 level in propolis group, while the increment was not significant in the placebo group. After 6-month treatment, the increase of CD4 level was occurred in both groups, propolis and placebo, however the increment was not statistically significant. The levels of hemoglobin, leukocyte, and platelets were not altered by the treatment and remained normal throughout the study. The quality of life was improved during the study; however, it was also not statistically significant. Mild adverse events occurred in 3 subjects which were relieved after the treatment stopped.CONCLUSION: Based on the result of this study, the administration of propolis on HIV patients receiving ARV bring significant difference in the increase of CD4 in propolis group from baseline to 3 month after the treatment. While in placebo group, this increment was not significant. At the end of study, CD4 count continued to rise up, however the increase was not statistically significant. There are no hemoglobin, leukocyte, platelets, and quality of life abnormalities. Therefore, it is necesary to do further research with a spesific CD4 count. However, it may be beneficial in relieving the clinical symptoms and quality of life of patient living with HIV.KEYWORDS: CD4, ARV, HIV, propolis
COVID-19 cases in Indonesia in the period of June-July 2021 showed a catastrophic spike. During this period, a recently discovered variant, the delta variant, appeared to be one of the sources of COVID-19 infection. Treatment modalities are limited due to reduced stock of drugs. A case of a 63-year-old man has been reported, with a history of having been vaccinated with two doses of Sinovac, experiencing moderate-to-severe symptoms of COVID-19 infection then given convalescent plasma therapy since his initial admission to the hospital. Three days after being given convalescent plasma therapy, the improvement was noticeable. Shortness of breath, cough, fever, and weakness were less complained. On the seventh day the patient fully recovered and got discharged. Convalescent plasma therapy was e ective in early stage and was able to improve outcomes. Indonesia needs sucient stocks of convalescent plasma as a therapy to overcome the limitations of medicines.
Background: Stroke is a serious medical condition potential that affects humans and requires special attention. The treatment of stroke is highly dependent on patients' knowledge and adherence in undergoing rehabilitation. Knowledge about medical rehabilitation will determine the level of patients' adherence undergo medical rehabilitation. The study aimed to find the correlation between patients' knowledge and adherence to chronic stroke patients undergoing medical rehabilitation. Methods: This is an observational analytic study conducted in the executive medical rehabilitation policlinic at dr. Zainoel Abidin Hospital. Seventy-four respondents were selected by the non-probability sampling technique and accidental sampling method. Two questionnaires were used, namely the "Overview of Familial Behaviour towards Stroke Patients in Rehabilitation Efforts" questionnaire and the "Correlation of Family Support with Stroke Patients Rehabilitation Adherence" questionnaire. Data were analyzed using Chi-Square statistical test. Results: 45.9% of respondents had good knowledge and compliance, 23% of respondents had average knowledge and compliance, and 9.5% of the respondents had poor knowledge and compliance. Data analysis showed a significant correlation between patients' knowledge and level of adherence in undergoing medical rehabilitation. Conclusion: Increasing patients' knowledge about medical rehabilitation is crucial to improve patient's adherence in undergoing medical rehabilitation.
