ZusammenfassungEine Geburt als ein individuelles Projekt zu begreifen, ist eine zentrale These in der soziologischen Natalitätsforschung. Um eine gute Geburt für Mutter, Kind und Partner*in gemäß dem medizinischen Selbstbestimmungsparadigma aktiv positiv gestalten zu können, scheinen umfangreiche Vorbereitungen und Entscheidungen notwendig zu sein. Die Geburt, so die These, würde nahezu wie ein Event individuell inszeniert. Gleichzeitig ist es von Bedeutung, Geburt als sozial geprägtes Ereignis zu verstehen, das durch divergierende Dispositive auf spezifische Art und Weise hervorgebracht wird. Dabei ist das biomedizinische Risikodispositiv als hegemonial anzusehen, hinzukommen spezifische gesellschaftliche Entwicklungen wie die Ökonomisierung des Gesundheitssystems oder die Zentralisierungen der Geburtskliniken. Folglich sind die Möglichkeitsräume zur aktiven Gestaltung der Geburt strukturell begrenzt. Das medizinische Geburtshilfesystem ist in seinen Praktiken und Deutungen der Geburt repressiv und machtvoll. Wie sich Frauen in dem spannungsreichen dispositiven Feld der Geburt bewegen und positionieren, Diskurse weiterschreiben und verändern, war die Fragestellung des vorliegenden Projekts. Im Zentrum standen die Subjektivierungsweisen gebärender Frauen. Dazu führte ich Interviews mit neun Frauen kurz vor und kurz nach der Geburt. In einer Verschränkung von Dispositivanalyse und Grounded Theory wertete ich das Material aus. Der Beitrag fordert dazu auf, Geburt als ein grundlegend unbekanntes Phänomen zu begreifen, dem sich Frauen durch verschiedene Praktiken annähern. Deutlich wird in der Analyse, dass die Deutung der Geburt diskursiv als ein unbekanntes Phänomen konstruiert ist. Mein Beitrag diskutiert die Auswirkung dieser Deutung und deren Verstrickung mit Bio-Macht und Weiblichkeit.
Selbstbestimmung und Autonomie während der Geburt sind seit den 1970er-Jahren zentrale Forderungen der Frauengesundheits- und Patient*innenbewegungen. Im Fokus steht dabei eine Emanzipation von der bio-medizinischen Geburtsmedizin mit ihren starken Interventionen und Kontrollpraktiken. Bei Selbstbestimmung im herkömmlichen Sinn wird ein autonomes, unabhängiges Subjekt vorausgesetzt und adressiert. Aber passt diese Beschreibung überhaupt zu einem Ereignis wie der Geburt? Oder treten angesichts der Spannungslage zwischen Selbstbestimmung und Fürsorge Grenzen der Selbstbestimmung für Gebärende zutage? Diesen Fragen geht der Artikel nach, indem er zuerst einen medizinischen Paradigmenwechsel zum Themenbereich der Patient*innenautonomie nachzeichnet und danach fragt, inwiefern das Selbstbestimmungsparadigma für professionelle Geburtshelfer*innen und Gebärende praktisch relevant ist. Dazu wurden gebärende Frauen kurz vor und nach der Geburt befragt. Weiterführende Überlegungen zu Widerstand und Empowerment in einer sehr machtvollen Institution wie dem Krankenhaus, in dem ein Großteil der Geburten stattfindet, bilden den Abschluss des Artikels.
Elternschaft, die Frage wie man schwanger wird und das Thema Geburt blieben lange Zeit eine ausgesparte Perspektive in der feministischen Auseinandersetzung. Der, in Europa bis in die Gegenwart hinein, tonangebende Gleichheitsfeminismus orientiert sich an der Gleichheit mit Männern -ungebunden und meist durch Frauen von Fürsorge befreit. Da Abhängigkeiten der Selbstbestimmung von Frauen Grenzen setzen, waren Debatten rund um die Geburt und Mutterschaft als privates Problem einiger Frauen -nämlich derjenigen, die Mütter wurden -marginal. Themen rund um Schwangerschaft, Geburt und Elternschaft blieben in den feministischen Debatten lange Zeit Gegenstand der Abgrenzung. Doch das scheint sich aktuell zu ändern. Ein Bedeutungswandel in der Perspektive auf Elternschaft hält Einzug in feministische Auseinandersetzungen und Kämpfe. Nicht länger richten sie sich gegen abhängige Lebenslagen, sondern gegen Verhältnisse, in denen das Leben mit Kindern zur Zumutung wird. Damit sind Schwangerschaft, Geburt, Feminismus und Familie in dieser Kombination ein neuer Untersuchungsgegenstand, dem in den letzten Jahren zunehmend wissenschaftliche Aufmerksamkeit geschenkt wird. Das erste Handbuch im deutschsprachigen Raum zu feministischen Perspektiven auf Elternschaft, herausgegeben von Lisa Yashodhara Haller und Alicia Schlender, versammelt anhand von Schlagworten 50 Beiträge, die in fünf Rubriken untergliedert sind. In der ersten Rubrik geht es um die Fragen, wie Mutterschaft, Vaterschaft und Elternschaft in unterschiedlichen feministischen Theorieströmungen bearbeitet werden. Gesellschaftliche und staatliche Einflüsse auf das Leben mit Kindern, rechtliche Aspekte und die institutionelle Einbettung der Ausübung von Mutter-und Vaterschaft sowie deren Anwendung in unterschiedlichen Handlungsfeldern, u. a. der Sarah Eckardt ( )
