This chapter discusses the use of peer research to examine gender and sexual minority people's experiences of exclusion and prejudice in contexts of employment, education and welfare in the North Indian State of Manipur. Working with members of community groups run by and for 'transgender' people elicited perspectives grounded in lived experiences that would not have been possible otherwisenot because such people constitute a 'hard-to-reach population', but because they are so often excluded from more 'orthodox' research approaches.
