A partir de la premisa de la importancia de los medios de comunicación en la Educación para la Salud, los autores de este trabajo relatan la experiencia del Programa de «Cine y Salud», llevado a cabo por el Ayuntamiento de Ourense con el objeto de educar en hábitos de vida más saludable, a partir del visionado de films, ya que al ser un medio muy enraizado en las experiencias vitales de los jóvenes y con gran impacto en sus comportamientos y formas de vivir, contribuye a fomentar, transmitir o cambiar valores y contravalores sociales.
Se describe en esta colaboración el proceso de implantación y seguimiento de la Escuela de Padres y Madres que se inició en Ourense desde 1994 a 1997. En concreto el artículo se centra en el bloque temático denominado: «El binomio publicidad-consumo. Reflexión desde el prisma familiar». Los objetivos de la experiencia se centraban en implicar a los padres en el proceso educativo de sus hijos, mejorando sus niveles de competencia, considerando a la familia como primera institución de modelado, aprendizaje y socialización, y analizando el importante papel de los medios de comunicación de masas, especialmente la publicidad, como elementos de socialización secundarios.
