ABSTRAKElektroplating merupakan proses pelapisan logam dengan menggunakan arus listrik yang bertujuan untuk memperlambat korosi dan memperindah penampilan. Logam pelapis yang digunakan adalah krom dengan jenis dekoratif yang mempunyai lapisan tipis dan menitikberatkan pada tampak rupa namun tetap menambah daya tahan terhadap korosi. Penelitian ini menggunakan spesimen berupa tembaga dengan panjang 2 cm dan lebar 1 cm. Variasi dilakukan pada konsentrasi elektrolit yaitu 5 g/L, 10 g/L dan 15 g/L. Elektrolit yang digunakan adalah Kromium Klorida yang lebih ramah lingkungan. Kondisi operasi elektroplating ditentukan dengan cara percobaan/eksperimen polarisasi dengan mengatur voltase dari 0,1 sampai 3,5 dengan interval voltase 0,1. Arus yang dihasilkan dicatat lalu dibuat kurva polarisasi. Arus yang dipakai untuk elektroplating adalah 80% arus tertinggi (80% limiting current) dan arus tertinggi (limiting current) pada masing-masing konsentrasi. Hasil penelitian diuji menggunakan digital microscope diperoleh hasil pada konsentrasi 5 g/L dan 10 g/L permukaan yang terlapisi krom lebih merata. Sedangkan pada konsentrasi 15 g/L terdapat juga lapisan krom tetapi tidak merata. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa hasil terbaik diperoleh pada konsentrasi 5 g/L dengan arus 18,2 mA yang memiliki lapisan krom lebih merata. Proses penyepuhan atau juga dikenal dengan elektroplating/elektrodeposisi adalah proses yang melibatkan reaksi reduksi dari logam terlarut di dalam larutan elektrolit yang berlangsung di permukaan elektroda (katoda). Elektroplating biasanya dilakukan dalam sistem yang terdiri dari katoda, anoda, elektroda referensi, dan larutan elektrolit.
