La presente investigación propone desarrollar la competencia comunicativa desde el componente paralingüístico en la comunicación audiovisual periodística. Se utilizaron métodos del nivel teórico para la fundamentación y la modelación de la propuesta, especialmente el sistémico estructural funcional; métodos y técnicas del nivel empírico, tales como la observación, el análisis documental, la composición, el inventario de problemas, la encuesta, la entrevista y la estadística descriptiva. La investigación aporta un modelo de desarrollo del componente paralingüístico, en la comunicación audiovisual y una metodología, ejemplificada en la asignatura Periodismo Audiovisual. Los expertos consultados y los resultados del pre- experimento avalan la factibilidad de la implementación de la propuesta, la cual favorece el desarrollo de competencias comunicativas no verbales en la formación del periodismo audiovisual, mejora los estilos de redacción periodística, la expresión verbal, el empleo consciente de códigos dramatúrgicos indispensables en la realización audiovisual, como la entonación, las pausas, el ritmo, entre otros elementos paralingüísticos.
