Tecnologías de la comunicación. Una breve historia material propone una revisión de la historia social de los artefactos y la tecnología de la comunicación. Lo hace de manera introductoria y para un público que está iniciando una exploración sobre la relación entre los soportes de expresión y comunicación y su inserción y apropiación cultural y política en distintas sociedades y períodos históricos. Se trata de un aporte a la arqueología de medios y de las tecnologías asociadas a estos, particularmente en el contexto latinoamericano y colombiano.
Aquí consideramos el ejercicio de La Silla Vacía (Colombia), medio de vanguardia en cubrimiento político, durante la fase final de preparación para el Plebiscito de los acuerdos de paz colombianos (2016), cuando se discutía un nuevo modelo de nación que pronto entró en declive. Esta exploración revela que La Silla implementó estrategias de información con las que materializó varios de sus propósitos originarios para sostener una democracia sana desde el periodismo. Sin embargo, también muestra que se vio retado: los resultados de la votación del Plebiscito confrontó su confianza en un paradigma racional.
El futuro es sin género cuenta historias de personas trans de tres lugares de América Latina: Colombia, Argentina y Chile. Además de reportajes, entrevistas y crónicas, este título presenta reflexiones sobre un oficio periodístico incluyente, en el que hagamos más transparente el compromiso político de la comunicación y dejemos atrás los temores y los prejuicios frente a los encuentros entre periodismo y activismo. Centrado en las vidas y voces trans, este conjunto de aportes plantea que la conversación pública se enriquece cuando dejamos de esquivar los dilemas que tenemos aún por resolver como sociedad, mientras ciudadanes fuertes, con empeño, llevan adelante sus luchas.
El prolífico fotohistoriador John Mraz, un gringonacionalizado mexicano que en tierras latinoamericanas se ha hecho gurú incuestionable de la cultura visual de la región, reflexiona sobre el fotoperiodismo como documento y relato gráfico en esta entrevista que también nos deja apartes de su vida como académico comprometido políticamente y ser humano atrevido.
