El clivaje entre los estudios de género/feministas y los trabajos en ciencias sociales de la religión ha generado una frontera entre dos perspectivas de investigación que sin embargo son necesariamente complementarias. Las reticencias que se construían entre ambos campos disciplinares impedían, de un lado, incorporar la complejidad y los matices de las prácticas, las creencias y el rol de instituciones religiosas en los estudios de género/feministas, mientras que, del otro lado, se esquivaba la incorporación de una perspectiva de género en los estudios de ciencias sociales de la religión por temor a caer en sesgos. Este dossier se inserta en la serie de trabajos que —en América Latina— se inicia a mediados de los 80 pero proponiendo un análisis interdisciplinario renovado entre ambos campos y metodologías de trabajo. Con este objetivo, aquí se reúnen algunos trabajos de jóvenes investigadores que discuten los desafíos y límites teóricos-metodológicos que enfrentan las nuevas preguntas de investigación para abordar las interfaces entre religión y género en Chile, México y Uruguay, considerando los cambios en el campo social y religioso en las últimas décadas.
