ABSTRACT:The assistance to the parturient after the childbirth in Brazil is analyzed regarding the pregnancy cycle, where the pre-natal care is rated as non-effective, the delivery care is isolated and the post-natal stage is forgotten. Under these circumstances, it is emphasized the importance of the nurse before, during and after delivery, taking into consideration how little this professional is currently employed in the processo This article suggests the re-orientation towards attention to the parturient through the return to home care, through having the first consultation after delivery sooner, through the' effective implementation of the reference system, through the acquirement of the proper technology and through the widening of the assistance coverage.
