Entre los emberá-chami, nasa y wounaan del Valle del Cauca, las “armonizaciones” son un conjunto de rituales que buscan la normalización de las interacciones inter y extraétnicas en escenarios de concertación política. El uso frecuente de dicha palabra en castellano ha facilitado el entendimiento y aceptación de estas prácticas en las lógicas institucionales, pero también ha simplificado las particularidades culturales de cada grupo. En sus diferentes modulaciones, estos rituales favorecen la transformación de situaciones de encuentro interétnico en espacios domesticados simbólicamente. El interés central del artículo está puesto en estos rituales y en su utilización para interpretar las iniciativas y leyes del Estado desde la interrogación por su “espíritu”, una noción animista indígena, relacionada con entidades no humanas, de la vocación o intención de la ley estatal en esta región y su posible efecto en el desarrollo de negociaciones políticas menos conflictivas.
