A pesquisa Produção do espaço urbano em área de fronteira: Pacaraima/Roraima/Brasil, busca entender a cidade no processo de estruturação da sociedade evidenciada por meio das dimensões políticas e econômicas, expressas pelo sujeito social no espaço em área de fronteira, com olhar orientado para a problemática mais estrutural e estratégica do desenvolvimento; tendo como caracterização primordial os fatores políticos, por meio de levantamentos do processo histórico-sócio-político regional, entendendo as transformações ocorridas sob a influência de políticas públicas implementadas pelo Estado, após 1990, detectando e contextualizando os diferentes períodos de ocupação procurando mostrar a produção do espaço em área de fronteira com sobreposição de territorialidades, que se fundem e se completam, alterando os referenciais identitários no espaço e no tempo.
Este artigo apresenta uma análise das transformações do espaço na fronteira Amazônica, considerando a perspectiva socioambiental dos recursos naturais, descrevendo a dinâmica do território, por meio da Série Histórica da Cobertura e Uso da Terra do município de Pacaraima (2000, 2010 e 2019), fronteira geopolítica com a República Bolivariana da Venezuela, a partir dos processos de uma abordagem multitemporal, utilizando níveis de aquisição orbital, bem como múltiplas resoluções espaciais, permitindo o entendimento qualitativo do objetivo proposto de analisar a dinâmica da cobertura e uso da terra do município de Pacaraima. A pesquisa apoiou-se numa revisão metodológica, traçada nos caminhos da pesquisa documental, com vasto acervo digitalizado de coleta de dados estatísticos e da pesquisa laboratorial utilizando o Geoprocessamento, que permite realizar análises complexas com a automatização da produção de materiais cartográficos, por meio do aplicativo ArcGis-10.5. Conclui-se que as mudanças na cobertura e uso da terra do município de Pacaraima predominaram em volta da sede, no contorno norte da fronteira com a Venezuela, a oeste e centro do município, com transições da cobertura florestal e áreas naturais não florestais para agropecuária e áreas não vegetadas, apresentando um contínuo processo degenerativo da cobertura vegetal, associada há um
