Resumen Se determinó la influencia de la temperatura sobre el crecimiento microbiano y la biooxidación del hierro presente en la calcopirita por un consorcio microbiano. Se trabajó con muestras de escombreras con calcopirita procedentes de los botaderos de las pilas de lixiviación de la empresa minera Southern Peru Copper. Estas muestras fueron sometidas a cultivo de enriquecimiento y a un subsiguiente cultivo en caldo 9K para obtener el consorcio microbiano biolixiviante como inóculo. Se realizaron 4 tratamientos experimentales a 25, 40, 55 y 70 °C, con una doble repetición. Cada tratamiento contuvo el inóculo microbiano, el medio de cultivo 9K y la calcopirita. El tratamiento que obtuvo una mayor biooxidación de Fe 2+ y mayor concentración microbiana fue el tratamiento experimental de 70 °C. Se determinó estadísticamente que la temperatura no tuvo influencia en el incremento de biomasa ni en la biooxidación del hierro de la calcopirita.
