RESUMO A Doença de Alzheimer (DA) é o tipo mais comum de demência, acometendo 1% ou pouco mais de 6% da população a partir dos 65 anos. Sendo assim, a nutrição pode ter prováveis efeitos sobre a doença, interferindo em sua melhora ou na progressão. O objetivo do estudo foi analisar o consumo dietético dos principais grupos alimentares pelos idosos com doença de Alzheimer acompanhados no Centro Especializado de Atenção à Saúde do idoso (CEASI) em Natal-RN. Estudo descritivo de abordagem quantitativa com 58 idosos atendidos no CEASI. Para a coleta de dados, foi aplicado um questionário semiestruturado com questões fechadas. Os dados foram coletados em setembro de 2014. A análise estatística descritiva foi feita pelo programa SPSS 20.0. A média de idade dos idosos foi de 82 anos, sendo a maioria do sexo feminino. Esses possuem boa rotina alimentar e a maioria dos grupos alimentares analisados, são consumidos diariamente, com exceção, dos tubérculos que não encontra-se dentre os hábitos da maioria dos idosos. O consumo de alimentos fritos, gordura animal, enlatados, embutidos, doce/guloseimas e temperos e molhos, não faz parte da maioria dos hábitos desses idosos. Muitos dos idosos e seus cuidadores já possuem uma orientação quanto a importância da inclusão de diferentes alimentos, priorizando sempre os que fornecem melhor aporte nutricional. Dos grupos alimentares analisados, a grande parte encontra-se já incluído nos hábitos alimentares e com boa aceitação. O consumo de tubérculos deve ser sempre encorajado, utilizando-se de estratégias nutricionais destinada especificamente para esse público.
