Background: Virtual reality is a new and modern technology; Virtual reality is significantly safe and beneficial in reducing pain and anxiety during labor. Aim was to explore the efficacy of virtual reality application as a distraction for primiparity women at 1st stage of labor on pain and anxiety control. Design: A quasi-experimental design was utilized to fulfill the aim of this study. Setting: the labor unit in (obstetrics & gynecology department) at Benha University. Sample: A purposive sample that fulfill the inclusion criteria [Total 220 primipara were equally divided into two groups (control group: 110 primipara and study group: 110 primipara)]. Tools: There are four main tools; interviewing questionnaire sheet (sociodemographic data and obstetrics history), labour observational sheet through partograph, pain and anxiety assessment scales (Visual Analog Scale and Anxiety Rating Scale) and modified maternal satisfaction questionnaire. Results: There was a highly statistical significant difference related to labor pain and anxiety during the first stage of labor. Moreover, there was highly statistical significance difference related duration of the different stages of labor. The majority of women were satisfied with virtual reality application. Conclusion: Virtual reality had a positive effect on pain and anxiety levels during the first stage of labor. Recomendations: Virtual reality is recommended as an alternative non-pharmacological therapy, which can be applied in maternity hospitals for effective effect in labor pain and anxiety management.
Typically, fractures of the distal femur occur in high-energy trauma in a young patient or a fall at home in an older individual. The retrograde intramedullary nail and locking compression plate are two treatment options for distal femur fractures. Stabilizing mechanisms based on biological osteosynthesis may be found in each of these systems. It was the goal of this research to compare the outcomes of distal femur fracture stabilisation using RN and LP methods. We set out to see how each fixation technique performs in terms of operational time, recovery time, knee range of motion (ROM), and complications. Methods: What we used and how we did it The functional and radiological outcomes of 32 patients with distal femoral fractures were evaluated in a prospective randomised clinical trial. Retrograde Intramedullary Nail was used to fix Group 1. a distal femur-locked plate fixed Group 2. As a consequence, while the retrograde nail took less time to operate and caused less blood loss, there was no significant difference between the two groups in terms of LEFS, knee range of motion, or overall outcomes and complications. This research found that, when compared to other studies, an acceptable result could be obtained using both approaches. The nail, however, demonstrated a higher union rate and a lower surgical morbidity in our sample of patients.
Background: Monitoring and recording fetal heart rate by cardiotocography is to detect any changes that might occur that put the fetus at risk of fetal distress or death due to lack oxygen. Aim of study: Was to evaluate the effect of educational program on knowledge and practices of maternity nurses regarding cardiotocography. Design: A quasi-experimental design (Time series design) was utilized to fulfil the aim of the study. Sample: A convenient sample of 40 maternity nurses were included in the present study. Setting: The present study was conducted at Labor and Cardiotocography room of the Obstetrics and Gynecological department at Benha University Hospital. Tools of data collection: Self-administered questionnaire, and nurses' observational checklist regarding cardiotocography. Results: The majority of nurses were had poor level of knowledge and unsatisfactory practice during pre-program, while during post program, and followup the majority of nurses were had good level of knowledge and satisfactory practice, with slightly decline during after 3 months follow-up. Conclusion: Educational program had a positive effect on improving knowledge and practice of maternity nurses regarding cardiotocography. Recommendations: Applying of continuous in-service training program for maternity nurses to improve performance regarding cardiotocography.
Background: Perimenopause represents a critical life stage encompassing a range of physiological and psychosocial changes that require a healthy lifestyle to promote health and functioning. Aim: The study aimed to investigate the effect of an educational program on lifestyle of perimenopausal women utilizing PRECEDE-PROCEED model. Design: Quasi-experimental (study-control / time series) study was utilized. Setting: Administrative building of Benha university hospitals. Sample: A purposive sample of (109 women) was selected according to inclusion and exclusion criteria. The sample consisted of two groups (study group comprised (55) perimenopausal women who received the program and control group comprised (54) perimenopausal women who didn't not receive the program).Tools of data collection: A structured interviewing questionnaire sheet, and health-promoting lifestyle profile. Results: After three and six months of program application, the mean scores of predisposing factors, reinforcing factors, enabling factors and health promoting lifestyle of the study group were significantly higher than the scores in the control group (P < 0.001).Conclusion: PRECEDE -PROCEED model provided an excellent framework for health intervention programs and improved the understanding of the relationship among health-promoting lifestyle, educational and ecological assessment phase structures and demographic factors. Recommendation: Implementing an educational intervention based on PRECEDE -PROCEED model on women's lifestyle at different stages of life and settings especially workplaces with high female density.
