Lethenteron ninae sp. n., a nonparasitic lamprey, is described from rivers of western Transcaucasia in Russia and Abkhazia. It is distinguished from the other species of Lampetrinae in Europe and west Asia (Black Sea basin) by the combination of the following character states: adults with a dark blotch near the apex of the second dorsal fin; exolaterals absent; posterials either absent or more commonly present in a single incomplete row of 3-7 teeth (a toothless gap in the middle); transverse lingual lamina with 9-15 unicuspid teeth, the median one markedly enlarged; supraoral lamina with two unicuspid teeth separated by a toothless bridge; 1-2 rows of anterials, usually 2; first row of anterials with 5-7 unicuspid teeth; oral fimbriae, 69-99; trunk myomeres in both ammocoetes and adults, 56-62; and in ammocoetes, trunk not mottled and tongue precursor bulb clearly triangular, with a wide base and a pointed apex bearing few cirri.

Поступила в редакцию: 06.11.2016 В работе впервые суммируются результаты изучения батрахо-и герпетофауны Республики Южная Осе-тия. В результате изучения литературных источников, полевых дневников, музейных собраний, соб-ственных экспедиций в Южную Осетию был составлен аннотированный перечень видов, как достоверно обитающих в регионе, так и когда-либо упоминавшихся для него. В настоящее время, в составе батра-хофауны Республики Южная Осетия достоверно установлено наличие 9 видов, в составе герпетофауны -19 видов. Приводится полный кадастр всех находок (65 локалитетов). Ряд видов впервые подтвержден-но указывается в научной литературе для исследованной территории: Emys orbicularis, Darevskia mixta, Natrix megalocephala, Hierophis schmidti, Pelias dinniki, P. kaznakovi. Обнаружена морфологическая спец-ифичность югоосетинских популяций Darevskia praticola, D. brauneri и D. caucasica. Проведена оценка созологического статуса всех форм амфибий и рептилий в регионе. По ее результатам 5 видов амфибий и 10 видов рептилий рекомендованы к внесению в Красную книгу Республики Южная Осетия. Централь-ной проблемой природоохранной деятельности в регионе является отсутствие сети особо охраняемых природных территорий разного ранга, охватывающих все природные зоны и высотные пояса. В един-ственной особо охраняемой природной территории, Юго-Осетинском государственном заповеднике, ча-стично обеспечены охраной лишь по 3 угрожаемых вида земноводных и пресмыкающихся.Ключевые слова: амфибии, охрана редких видов, рептилии, Республика Южная Осетия, фауна Nature Conservation Research. On the basis of the morphometric analysis of the variability of the white-fish Coregonus lavaretus of Sevan Lake, it was revealed that a comparatively homogeneous population of this fish has been formed there by the beginning of the XXI century. It is suggested that the unstable hydroecological regime of the lake and the anthropogenic pressing on the population of the white-fish can influence on the formation of new morphological and ecological features of this fish in the future. At the same time, taking into account the evolutionary youth of the white-fish of Sevan Lake and incompleteness of the processes of its formation, it is suggested to consider this fish as an ecological form of Coregonus lavaretus without certain taxonomic status.

Additional material collected in a type locality of Pelias magnifica (Tuniyev et Ostrovskikh, 2001) expands our current understanding of the external morphology of the species (including its color polymorphism), its preferred habitats and daily activity. A rapid assessment of the current population status was done.
