Four-body correlations may appear as aclustering in light nuclei. 1 ) The pion-exchange nucleon-nucleon potentials make the anucleon interaction rather weak. though inner nucleons are strongly bound in the a particle. 6 Li, which is the lightest stable nucleus with such correlations, should have an a cluster core and loosely bound nucleons. The _ latters correlate to make a deuteron cluster and are well separated from the former. In fact, the a-d cluster modeF) describes reasonably the low-lying states of 6 Li. The variational calculation 3 ) for the ground state shows that the a cluster has very small compressibility and that the binding energy between the a and d clusters in the relative S state is rather small so that 6 Li has a very diffuse surface. The Coulomb disintegration 4 ) and (n-, nn) reaction') for 6 Li are also well explained with this modeL Recently, a large amount of information 6 ) on the quasi-free P-P scattering for 6 Li is
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
