Background
Aspergillus species are the reason for the wide range of infections especially invasive fungal infections. The aim of this study was defined to evaluate the antifungal activity of plants and compounds including thyme, Aloevera, Thyme, carvacrol, and nano-encapsulation of carvacrol on growth and aflatoxin production of Aspergillus parasiticus and Aspergillus flavus.
Methods and Results
The minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) of extracts, carvacrol, nanocarvacrol, and fluconazole as control were determined according to Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) by serial microdilution method. Then, the effect of inhibitory concentrations of the studied compounds on the amount of aflatoxin B1 production was evaluated by real time PCR and high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC).Our results indicate that the Aspergillus parasiticus and Aspergillus flavusare sensitive to selected plants and compounds.
Conclusion
our result showed that we can be used the extracts of plants and their compounds with the help of nanotechnology to control the production of aflatoxin.
