To improve the quality of the jute fibres CRIJAF SONA was developed and disseminated by ICAR- Central Research Institute of Jute and Allied Fibres (CRIJAF). A study was carried out on 2021 in North 24 Parganas and Nadia districts respectively to assess the various aspects of CRIJAF SONA as perceived by the randomly selected 80 jute growers using structured interview schedule. The index values of perceived attributes of CRIJAF SONA for relative advantage, compatibility, complexity, observability and trialability were calculated as 93.87, 88.25, 43.08, 93.33 and 94.69 respectively. The technology effectiveness was found as 85.41 which shows that the technology is having favourable perception in selected jute growing areas.
Murshidabad district is famous for mango cultivation and presently around two hundred traditional mango varieties are produced. The present study was conducted on eighty mango growers randomly selected from five villages under Farakka block of Murshidabad district in May, 2021. The objective of the study was to identify some important mango varieties grown by mango growers and also to find out the relative preferences of the varieties according to profitability. Five varieties of mango namely, Himsagar, Langra, Amrapali, Fazli and Gopalbhog were identified and presented to the respondent in ten pairs. The respondents were asked to select one variety of mango over the other from each pair separately which they consider more profitable. For analysis of data, the method of pair comparisons was followed. According to the perception of the mango growers the most profitable mango variety was Langra followed by Himsagar. Fazli was more profitable than Amrapali but Gopalbhog was least profitable as perceived by the mango growers.
The study was conducted during the year 2017–18 in Block II of Kalimpong District in West Bengal. The state, district and the block were selected purposively whereas the respondents were selected randomly. Data were collected randomly from 60 farmers from three different villages of Block II of Kalimpong district with the help of structured interview schedule. The four different varieties namely Ramsey, Golsey, Varlangey and Seremna were presented to the farmers in pairs, in 6 possible combinations. The farmers were requested to identify one variety over the other from each six pairs which they consider more profitable and high yielding. For analysis of the data, Method of Paired Comparisons was followed. It was found from the study that the majority of farmers preferred Varlangey cultivar more in terms of yield (Scale value 2.1) and profitability (scale value 2.0) because of its higher yield, early maturity, bigger capsule size, making it easy to harvest and higher productivity. Ramsay variety occupied the second position in terms of yield (Scale value 1.6) and profitability (Scale Value 1.2). Whereas, Golsey variety occupied the third position in case of yield (Scale Value 1.0) and profitability (Scale value 0.16) followed by the variety Seremna whose scale value have been brought down to arbitrary zero. According to the respondents there is no significant difference between Golsey and Seremna with respect to their yield and profitability.
Jute is a major commercial crop grown by majority of the small and marginal farmers of West Bengal. To make this venture profitable ICAR-Central Research Institute of Jute and Allied Fibres (CRIJAF) had developed innovative jute production technologies. The study was conducted during 2021 at villages of North 24 Parganas and Nadia districts of West Bengal where ICAR-CRIJAF had disseminated its innovative technologies. A sample of 160 jute growers comprising of 80 adopter farmers and 80 non-adopter farmers were selected randomly. The objective was to identify the influence of the socio-psychological characteristics of the jute growers on their level of technology socialisation. Canonical correlation analysis was carried out to find the association between these two sets of variables. The variables; achievement motivation, innovativeness, education, land holdings etc. moved together with adoption whereas farming experience and age followed the same direction as rejection and discontinuance.
