Safe, effective, and durable left atrial appendage occlusion can easily be achieved with this new clip. Further trials are necessary to evaluate the role of the left atrial appendage occlusion in stroke prevention.
Elevated PVR and severe PH were both previously considered as contraindication for heart transplantation. A period of LVAD pumping leads to a progressive decrease of PVR and normalization of pulmonary pressures, making these patients amenable for heart transplantation. LVAD as bridge to heart transplantation is safe and highly beneficial for terminal heart failure patients with severe PH.
We have demonstrated a relatively low incidence of stroke in a diverse contemporary cardiac surgical cohort. By enabling preoperative identification of patients at risk, our logistic model has the potential to improve preoperative patient counseling and selection and could help to define high-risk cohorts for research into stroke prevention.
Our results confirm that OPCAB is superior with regard to risk-adjusted outcomes. There is no difference in the stroke rate when comparing on-pump CABG versus applying partial aortic crossclamping in OPCAB. Whenever a proximal anastomosis is needed, a no-touch technique should be applied, that is, using the HS device.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
