The development of identity and social competences are central developmental tasks during adolescence. Adolescents interact intensively with their living environment, social partners and try to fi nd their place in society. Drama acting can support these processes of fi nding identity, improving social competences and trying out social roles and communication styles. Adolescents of a drama group and of a control group were compared in an exploratory longitudinal study over six months. We found weak tendencies of a more developed identity, a higher self esteem and social refl exibility. These results suggest that drama acting might support the development of identity during adolescence. Further studies are needed to validate these fi ndings in larger samples and with more elaborated methods.
