Over the past 3 decades, the prevalence of overweight and obesity has increased dramatically worldwide. The rising trend of obesity indicates that this increase is not only confined to the developed world, but also extending towards the developing world. In the context, Saudi Arabia is now among the nations with the highest obesity and overweight prevalence rates due to a number of factors. This research explores and evaluates the prevalence of obesity in Saudi Arabia on the basis of the findings of previous literature. The research reveals that the rate of obesity is significantly high in the country among different age groups and occupations; at different locations in the country; and among both males and females. The main factors causing obesity include family history, diet pattern and eating habits, genetic factors, marital status, hypertension and lack of physical activities; while, the major consequences are cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, cancers, and Ischemic heart disease. The research stresses on the need to raise awareness regarding obesity and design efforts and strategies to combat it in the country.
The present study explains the maturation stage of the Sukkari and Hilwa along with the associated biochemical changes. A total of 10 different samples were studied of the Sukkari and Hilwa dates in total, in which each represents different maturation stage. The outcomes of the study showed that the changes were emerging due to the proteins and enzymes present in dates. The study showed that the date fruit goes through different biochemical changes with its maturation, which can assist in the expansion of the date fruit cultivation.
Introduction: To understand the increased fruit content of soluble proteins, sugars, certain enzymes activities, and certain polyphenols in context to date fruit ripening. Materials and Methods: The study collected four varieties of date fruits from a farm in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. In it, 10-14-day intervals separated the various stages of maturity. The process of sample preparation and extraction includes the samples of fruits at different stages of maturation. Results and Discussion: The Polyphenols oxidize activity appeared to decline with further maturation of date fruit. There was an increase in the protein content and the reducing sugar in all varieties of dates. The changes in the total sugar and reducing sugar occurred due to the increased enzyme’s activity. Conclusion: The reducing sugar increased in all varieties of the date fruit. The coordination of the enzyme might influence the quality of the ripening of date fruits.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
