This paper describes the design of a control system for the gas composition of the inhaled breath during anaesthesia. A model of the gas flow through the anaesthetic system has been developed which is used as a disturbance predictor in the control system. To cope with the considerable delays in the system, Internal Model Control is used and found to be effective. Two gases are controlled simultaneously with a time constant of 400ms, with strong disturbance rejection.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
