The main interconnect of the massively parallel Blue Genet/L is a three-dimensional torus network with dynamic virtual cut-through routing. This paper describes both the architecture and the microarchitecture of the torus and a network performance simulator. Both simulation results and hardware measurements are presented.

, IBM announced the start of a five-year effort to build a massively parallel computer, to be applied to the study of biomolecular phenomena such as protein folding. The project has two main goals: to advance our understanding of the mechanisms behind protein folding via large-scale simulation, and to explore novel ideas in massively parallel machine architecture and software. This project should enable biomolecular simulations that are orders of magnitude larger than current technology permits. Major areas of investigation include: how to most effectively utilize this novel platform to meet our scientific goals, how to make such massively parallel machines more usable, and how to achieve performance targets, with reasonable cost, through novel machine architectures. This paper provides an overview of the Blue Gene project at IBM Research. It includes some of the plans that have been made, the intended goals, and the anticipated challenges regarding the scientific work, the software application, and the hardware design.

Tomato leaf curl virus (TLCV) is a major viral disease in tomato that causes quantitative and qualitative losses to the crop. One hundred and fifty three tomato genotypes were screened for three consecutive years (2006-09) under glasshouse and field conditions for TLCV resistance. The incidence of disease was higher during the Rabi season as compared to the Kharif season trials. The reactions of different genotypes were studied by artificial inoculation.

Acuaria anthuris, the type species of the genus Acuaria, is described in detail and A. scutata is considered to be synonymous with it.Acuaria skrjabini from Passer domesticus has been described and compared with the original description. It is a new record for India and Hyderabad.Acuaria kungi n.sp. from Saxicoloides fulicata is described and compared with related species.Acuaria sp. is recorded from Pastor roseus.A new species of Cheilospirura from Accipiter nisus is described and compared with related species.

In 1985, the writer in collaboration with Prof. M. B. Mirza described Strongyloides from John's Sand-boa (Eryx johnii) in Aligarh and assigned it to S. stercoralis, creating for its reception a new variety, S. stercoralis var. eryxi.During July and August, 1950, while examining certain snakes at Hyderabad for helminth parasites, the writer found that Strongyloides infection was very common in the Rat-snake. Ptyas (Zamenis) mucosus, for almost all the snakes examined were found infected. In light infections not more than a few, ten to fifteen worms, were obtained from a single host, but as many as 100 to 125 specimens were collected from heavily parasitized snakes. It was also observed that though they may be found throughout the length of the oesophagus and the intestine, the seat of heaviest infection is the duodenum of the host.It seemed rather strange that one and the same species should parasitize a reptile as well as a mammal so a detailed study of the worm, both in its parasitic and free-living generations, was undertaken with a view to determining definitely whether, as previously believed, it is identical with the human worm Strongyloides stercoralis. As a result of this study the writer has come to the conclusion that the species infesting certain snakes in India is not identical with the human worm, S. stercoralis or any other species of the genus hitherto described. It is therefore proposed to regard it as a new species and name it Strongyloides mirzai n.sp. after Professor M. B. Mirza, Head of the Department of Zoology, Muslim University, Aligarh (India). Strongyloides stercoralis var. eryxi previously recorded from Eryx johnii (Mirza and Singh, 1985), is here considered a synonym of this new species. Further it is suggested that in India the study of this parasite from the Rat-snake would afford an easy and inexpensive method for acquiring knowledge of the morphology of Strongyloides and learning the technique of its collection and examination. It would prove to be a suitable object for investigation, as it shows close resemblance to the human parasite, 5. stercoralis, which is rather difficult to obtain. Moreover, it is of very

The interspecific hybridization for tomato leaf curl virus (ToLCV) resistance was carried out among 10 genetically diverse tomato genotypes (diversified by 50 SSR markers). Among the 10 parents, four susceptible cultivars of Solanum lycopersicum were crossed with six resistant wilds, such as S. pimpinellifolium, S. habrochaites, S. chemielewskii, S. ceraseforme, S. peruvianum and S. chilense in a line x tester mating design. All the 24 hybrids and their parents were grown in the field and glasshouse conditions to determine the general-combining abilities (GCA) and specific-combining abilities (SCA). The variances due to SCA and GCA showed both additive and nonadditive gene effects. Based on GCA estimates, EC-520061 and WIR-5032 were good general combiners while based on SCA estimates, PBC x EC-520061 and PBC x EC-521080 were best specific combiners for coefficient of infection and fruit yield per plant in both the environments. These lines could be selected and utilized in ToLCV resistance and high yield breeding programme for improving the traits.

Desmidocercella leiperi n.sp. from Ardeola grayii is described in detail and compared with other related species.Two species of Oxyspirura are recorded from new hosts. Oxyspirura mansoni from Galloperdix spadicea and O. (Cramispirura) popowi from Copsychus saularis.Two new species of Oxyspirura are described, O. (Cramispirura) indica n.sp. from Kittacincla malabarica and O. buccosulcata n.sp. from Temenuchus pagodartum.
