The new compound Cs[Re(SCN)6] was prepared from the reaction of ReClr, with molten KSCN. Infrared evidence for the mode of bonding of the thiocyanate groups in [Re(SCN)e] ~and [Re(SCN)6] 2~i ons strongly favors attachment through the sulfur end. Studies of the reduction products of hydrochloric acid solutions of ReOi-with Sn(II) in the presence of excess KSCN, or reduction by KSCN itself, show that the hexathiocyanatorhenate(IV) and/or -(V) compounds are the major products, depending on the amount of reducing agent. No oxythiocyanate complexes were found.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
