Nowadays, the demand for forecasting techniques has increased due to conservation management of water resources. In this study, an artificial neural network model (ANN) was followed for determining the water quality index parameters. By the use of computer program, we can get a set of coefficients for a linear model in the calibration of ANN model. The Palayar River is one of the oldest rivers in Tamil Nadu originating from Western Ghats and flowing through Suchinthram area and Parakai Lake. Seven water quality parameters of Parakai Lake were chosen at four monitoring stations in the time period between December 2016 and March 2018. It is clear from the results that the water quality index (WQI) predicted with ANN model brings better output (correlation coefficient R = 0.9907) when compared with the Multiple regression model having R = 0.7908.
Summary:The present study deals with the comparative quality of potable waters of different sources at Bhagalpur, India, which is located on the south bank of river Ganga at 87'02' N latitude and 25'15' E longitude. Surface water (river Ganga) receives a number of drains and domestic wastewater outlets. The municipal surface water gets severely contaminated by rusted, damaged parallel pipelines and the groundwater through seepage from septic tanks, drains and a deep sewerage system. The contaminants from these sources have deteriorated the quality of potable water by increasing the concentration of turbidity (40 NTU), nitrate-N (42.5 ppm), total bacterial density (21.649 X 107/1) and MPN coliform (12,900/100 ml). The higher concentration of nitrate-N, chloride and the presence of E. coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Proteus vulgaris, Salmonella typhii and Pseudommas aeruginosa indicated the faecal contamination.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
