Moreover, NiL, [L, = 1,2-(Me,As),C,H,] reacts with hexduoroacetone or hexafluoroisopropylideneamine to form L,lkiC(CF,),*X*C(CF,),*;? (X = 0 or NH, respectively) .1These observations suggest activation of co-ordinated (CF,),C=X (X = 0 or NH). It is clear that both the metal and the co-ordinated ligands can have an effect on the extent of ' activation,' and with a view to understanding these reactions more fully we have investigated 3to &membered ring-expansion reactions with isocyanide-nickel complexes. Nanosized fibrous cerium phosphates, Ce (HPO4)2.2.9H2O (nCePf), wa prepared. was characterized by chemical , XRD, TGA analysis, Scanning electron microscope (SEM) and transmission electron microscope (TEM). Novel supported polybenzimidazole/ fibrous cerium phosphate nanocomposite membrane was prepared via in-situ chemical oxidation of the monomer that was promoted by the reduction of Ce (iv) ions present in the inorganic matrix. The presence of Ce (iv) ions allows redox reactions necessary to oxidative polymerization to occur. The resultant material was characterized by XRD, TGA, elemental (C,H,N) analysis and by FT-IR spectroscopy. Image SEM of the resulting nanocomposite reveals a uniform distribution of the polymer on the inorganic matrix }. Amount of polymer present in the composites found to be 11%.

The study of the pyrolysis of S-p-bromophenacyl xanthates of 1-hexanol, cyclohexanemethanol, and 2-phenylethanol are reported. The complex reaction mixtures were found to be con~posed of carbonyl sulfide, carbon disulfide, the corresponding alkenes, alkyl bromides, and starting alcohols, and 4'-bromoacetophenone. The formation of the non-Chugaev products in significant amounts indicates that these pyrolyses are quite different from the cis-elimination that is characteristic of S-methyl xanthates. The occurrence of the alkyl bromides is particularly significant. Possible mechanisms for the formation of all of these products are discussed.
