This study discussed the politicization of language through euphemisms that conducted at the time of news broadcasts on television stations by noticing the background of the use of the euphemisms. Euphemism in the mass media is not merely aimed at replacing taboo words, but rather is ideological politics. The problem raised in this study was "How was the politicization of language through euphemisms in news programs on television in terms of its use?". The purpose of this study was to describe the form and function of politicizing the meaning of words through euphemisms in news programs contained on television. This research was a descriptive research. Data analysis was performed using content analysis and then explained in accordance with the research findings. Based on the results of the study, the authors found that politicized euphemisms in the TVone news program amounted to 30 euphemisms with several reasons why the euphemisms were chosen and used include: (1) to smooth out words so that other people are not offended, (2) to keep things secret, (3) for diplomacy or berororis, (4) to disguise meaning, (5) to avoid panic and fear, (6) to respect others.
This study focuses on the use of vocabulary in tajuk rencana of Kompas. Ultilization of certain vocabulary by newspaper can form a reality or different views on a thing or event. Through this research, the writer tries to observe how the use of vocabulary in shaping the public’s view or called the construction or reality, so that it is illustrated that vocabulary in a medium plays an important role in shaping the understanding of the audience or readers. The problem that is focused is “How is the reality contruction through the use of vocabulary in tajuk rencana of Kompas?” By doing this research in the end the writer can describe the utilization of vocabulary that forms a certain reality. From the data found in this study, it can be concluded that the use of vocabulary in tajuk rencana of Kompas based on constructing a positive reality and image to the government, many thing or events are describe classification vocabulary, which tend to benefit the government and marginalize other parties. So, it is clear that there is a practice of language in every sense.
Abstract There have been several research studies that discussed verb phrases. But only some researchers analyse the X-bar theory concerning regional languages in Riau. The author attempts to demonstrate the structure of verb phrase in the Malay dialect of Kampar by using the X-bar theory.This study aims to find and analyse the rules structuring verb phrases contained in the Malay dialect of Kampar. This research was conducted through a field observation by using the descriptive method. According to the findings of the study, it is found that the principles for creating verb phrase structures in Kampar dialect were. 1) FV ---> V+N, ŋikIʸ umpʷIɁ ‘(me)motong rumput’/ Cut the grass; 2) FV ---> V+Spes, bagoɣaɁ lo ‘memasak’/ cook; 3) FV ---> Spes+V, ola makan ‘sudah makan’/ have got the food; 4) FV ---> NEG+V+Spes, ndaɁ dataŋ do ‘tidak datang’/ did not come; 5) FV ---> V+V, paʸ makan ‘pergi makan’/ get to eat; 6) FV ---> Adj+V, paya ŋasʷoňo ‘susah mengasuhnya/menjaganya’/ its hard to take care of; and 7) FV ---> V, motoŋ ‘menoreh/menyadap karet’/ tap the rubber. The background of the research was based on the existence of Abu Nawas stories that contain humor aspects. Besides, it has its uniqueness, so that readers are curious. The story of Abu Nawas is categorized as an anecdotal story because it contains the same structure and rules as the anecdotal text. Besides it also has a moral value so that it can be used as alternative teaching material at schools. Regarding the importance of Abu Nawas story, this study aimed to describe the structure and rules of anecdotal texts in the collection of Abu Nawas stories. This research was descriptive qualitative research. This research was conducted in literature. The research took six months. Data was collected using documentation techniques. This research data contained the text of the Abu Nawas anecdotal story containing structure and language use. The data analysis technique used in this study was the procedure and analysis model according to Miles and Huberman which consists of three stages, namely, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion or verification. The results of this study, first, in terms of the generic structure, 44 anecdotal texts were perfect and 14 texts were not complete. It was proven by the average value which was 94% and was categorized complete based on the standard of anecdotal text structure covering abstract, orientation, crisis, reaction, and coda. Second, in terms of language use, 19 stories were complete and 39 stories did not use the language use properly. It was proven by the average value which was 75% and was categorized complete. The language features used in the form of past tense, rhetorical questions, temporal conjunction, material verbs, and imperative sentences.
This research was related to the ability of students of Indonesia language and literature education in determining the type of sentence. It was conducted because obstacles were still found such as students could not distinguish simple items related to the type of sentence, especially in terms of the number of clauses and syntactic forms. The problems in this research were; (1) how was the ability of students of Indonesia language and literature education study program at FKIP UIR in determining the type of sentence based on the number of clauses?; (2) how was the ability of students of Indonesia language and literature education study program at FKIP UIR in determining the type of sentence based on the syntactic form?. Thus, this research aimed to find, analyze, describe, and conclude the ability of students of Indonesia language and literature education study program at FKIP UIR in determining sentence types based on the number of classes and their syntactical forms. The population in this research was all fourth semester that consist of 149 students and the sample was 15%, namely 22 students. Data collection techniques included observation and questionnaire. The theory used refers to the opinion expressed by Alwi, et al (2003) and other expert opinions. Based on the analysis conducted it can be concluded that; (1) The ability of students of Indonesia language and literature education study program at FKIP UIR in determining the type of sentence on the number of clauses based on the students’ average test score was 81.36 which was categorized “excellent”; and (2) The ability of students of Indonesia language and literature education study program at FKIP UIR in determining the type of sentence on the syntactic form based on students’ average test score was 79.31 which was categorized “good”.
