nen Atomparameter ist ziemlich zufriedenstellend. Die Temperaturfaktoren des Cl(3)-und des O(1)-Atoms sind klein, aber ihre Unscharfe ist grol3. Die Kristallchemie von 1 ist im Einklang mit der Annahme, daR die Hg-Zentren in dieser Phase ausschliefilich die Oxidationsstufe + 2 aufweisen. Sie bilden bisher unbekannte Hg,O,-Quadrate. Experimentelles BaHg,O,CI, wurde durch Reaktion von BaO, und Hg,CI, im Molverhaltnis 2:3 synthetisiert. Die Reagentien wurden innig vermischt und in einem unter Vakuum (lo-' Torr) abgeschmolzenen Pyrexrohr eingeschlossen, das drei Tage auf 360 "C erhitzt wurde. Nach der Reaktion wurde ein Ende des Rohrs auf Umgebungstemperatur abgekuhlt und das uberschussige Hg,Cl, durch Sublimation entfernt. Reines BaHg,O,CI, wurde als elfenbeinfarbenes, mikrokristallines Pulver gewonnen, das ein anderes Rontgenpulverdiagramm als die der Ausgangsmaterialien oder bekannter quecksilher-und bariumhaltiger Phasen ergab. Die Rontgenmikroanalyse (EDAX) zeigte aunahernd ein Ba: Hg: CI-Verhaltnis von 1 : 2: 2. Die Kristallstruktur von BaHg,O,Cl, wurde aus Rontgenpulverbeugungsdaten (Scintag automatisiertes Diffraktometer, Cu,.-Strahlung; 1 = 1.5418 A) bestimmt. Das primitiv tetragonale Pulvermuster des BaHg,O,C1, wurde mit TREOR90 indiziert und mogliche Raumgruppen wurden durch Bberprufen der Indizierung im Hinblick auf systemdtische Ausloschungen bestimmt. Die Startpositionen fur das
