Operational and structural variables affecting the performance of sintered iron electrodes were investigated. The porosity of the electrode is the predominant controlling factor, and surface area and neck-width after sintering, as well as solid phase conductivity, are also important. A recommended sintering condition is 800~ for 0.5 hr. The discharge products were also identified by means of x-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy to be Fe(OH)2 at the first discharge stage and Fe304 at the second stage. Finally a dimensionless group was proposed to estimate the capacity of an iron electrode.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
