Die Hydrierung des bei einer sauren Umlagerung von As‐Cholesten (I) entstehenden Dimethyldinorcholestens (II) an Raney‐Ni liefert ein Gemisch von 12 epimeren Kohlenwasserstoffen (Massenspektren) der Struktur (III).
Im Gleichgewichtsgemisch der Konfigurationsisomerisierung von Cholestan an Pt/C bei 600 K (5MPaH2, Stahlkappilare) werden gaschromatographisch und massenspektrometrisch die 16 thermodynamisch stabilsten Epimeren identifiziert.
Ausgehend von Cholesterin (I) erhält man durch CuO‐Oxidation und Methylierung ein 3:1‐Gemisch der Cholestenone (IIa) und (IIb), das sich chromatographisch an SiO2 trennen läßt (Ausb. sind generell nicht angegeben).
