A review of the experimentally determined values of the velocity of sound c in molten pure liquid metals and metalloids has been carried out. Based on the available data for each element, recommended velocity-temperature relationships have been suggested. A range of thermophysical properties has been derived from these values. Theoretical models for the velocity of sound and its temperature dependence have also been considered. Sound velocities have also been estimated via the inter-relationship of velocity to other thermophysical properties.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
