Load testing highway bridges is becoming an increasingly common procedure for determining bridge load capacity. Bridge testers frequently measure the strains in critical bridge components due to known loads. Measuring the strains in reinforced concrete bridges can be difficult due to the nonuniform distribution of strain in the tension (cracked) zone. This paper describes the design and testing of a simple yet accurate transducer for measuring flexural tensile strains in reinforced concrete bridges.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
