Substantiated dependences for estimating the capacity of channels with floodplains and leveed channels are needed for engineering solution of problems related to flood control. For a long time in hydraulics the movement of flows in the channel and floodplain parts of channels with floodplains was regarded as independent, i.e., overflow onto the floodplain does not affect movement of the channel flow. In connection with this the formal division of the entire channel by vertical planes into parts was considered sufficient when calculating the discharge of water in compound channels. The traditional equation of motion was used, and the total discharge was calculated by summation, i.e.,
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
