Permeation of organic nitrogen compounds and heptane through supported liquid membranes based on ionic liquids was carried out. First, the effects of the supports on the permeation rates and selectivity were examined and as a result, a polyvinylidene fluoride membrane was selected. Anions and cations of ionic liquids had different effects on the permeation. More hydrophobic cations had larger permeation coefficients, while the effect of anions is the reverse of that of the cations. The membrane impregnated by Zn-containing 1-ethyl-3-methyl imidazolium ethylsulfate ([C 2 mim] [EtSO 4 ]) gave the highest selectivity and relatively high permeation coefficients of nitrogen compounds.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
