L'usage sigillaire, dont la raison n'est pas claire pour la periode vieux-babylonienne, pouvait pourtant suggerer qu'il s'agit d'une tradition. Comme dit au debut de ce compte rendu, les sceaux &taient appos6s des tablettes d'argile, des fermetures de jarres et des bulles spheriques. Ils taient aussi apposes sur des pieces d'argile, plus ou moins en forme de tablettes, mais sans 6criture ni chiffres. L'auteur, remarquant qu'ils presentent apparemment quelque chose de particulier, les decrit dans une rubrique "unbestimmtes", indeterminable. Les sceaux sont apposes tr&s soigneusement. On connait cependant l'usage de pieces de quelque matiere ou autre, portant un sceau pour assurer l'identification du porteur de cette pi6ce, par exemple un messager, qui devait se l6gitimer ou prouver qu'il 6tait envoyd par son chef. Les objets repondent tout a fait i cet usage et on peut tenir compte de cette possibiliti. Si en effet les cylindres-sceaux appartenaient i des administrations de temples, le commettant aurait ete un temple dans ces cas. Mais ici il n'y a nul argument pour cette hypothbse; ces sceaux peuvent aussi bien &tre personnels, appartenant a un prince ou un cheik, mais alors il n'entrent pas dans l'hypothese de l'auteur, mentionn&e plus haut.Le deuxieme volume contient des photographies et des desseins des empreintes de sceaux et un index sur les sujets figures. Sans relever les autres sujets, traites dans le livre, il faut conclure quedeja par les chapitres mentionnesl'auteur a presenti une etude remarquable, analysant une mati6re, qui de par sa nature est difficile 'a interpreter, comme elle se reporte l'Ppoque de transition de la prehistoire " la protohistoire. L'auteur a presente une ceuvre novatrice, qui sans doute se rdpercutera dans des recherches i l'avenir, recherches concernant une periode historique tras importante, celle de la premiere urbanisation et des debuts des grandes exploitations et administrations dconomiques des temples.
