INTRODUÇÃOCongratulamo-nos conosco mesmo por termos tido a idéia de incluir, neste IV Congresso da S.B .M .T ., uma "Mesa Re donda" sôbre Ensino da Medicina Tropi cal.Na realidade, quem quer que se dedioue ao magistério superior no Brasil há de sentir quão desprezadas são as oportuni dades para um aperfeiçoamento de técni cas, para uma renovação de métodos, ou, até mesmo, para simples tomada de cons ciência do que se vem fazendo.Há poucos anos, prefaciando livro de Ruy Santos Figueiredo (1) -Ensino, sua técnica e sua arte -o Reitor da Pontifí cia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul, salientava quão raramente .se tra ta, em obras nacionais, de normas psico--pedagógicas utilizadas no exercício do m a gistério, lembrando que "no mundo euro peu e americano a experimentação peda gógica é realizada em maior ou menor es cala no grau de ensino elementar, muito pouco no grau médio e quase nada no grau superior" ."Em nosso país, continuou, as Faculdades de Filosofia, vieram preencher as lacunas existentes na preparação didática do pro fessor do ensino médio. Para o magisté rio superior, porém, perduram ainda as d i ficuldades" . E estas, acrescentamos nós, são muitas, cada vez maiores sem que se procure, de fato, correção ou progresso.Talvez dêste Congresso saiam certas su gestões aproveitáveis, rumos a seguir ou propósitos a tomar. Nenhuma ocasião mais propícia.No que nos diz respeito, cumpre-nos de senvolver tema concernente ao ensino da Medicina Tropical no currículo escolar. O que vamos fazer é nada mais nada menos do que prestar um depoimento.Fá-lo-emos do modo mais conciso pos sível, não apenas porque o tempo de que dispomos é -e não poderia deixar de ser -limitadíssimo, como também por, sôbre o mesmo assunto, ter sido magnificamente reaiizado minucioso inquérito pelo Proí. Jaime Neves.Começaremos lembrando que, em um país como o Brasil, onde há tantos e tão sérios problemas de saúde e no qual são tão poucas e de um modo geral tão defi cientes as Faculdades de Medicina, os pro blemas do ensino médico devem ser con siderados altamente prioritários.
