The objective of this research was to evaluate the growth and dry matter production of eleven sugarcane varieties (SP79-1011, RB813804, RB863129, RB872552, RB943365, RB72454, RB763710, SP78-4764, SP81-3250, RB867515, RB92579), grown under full irrigation, in the planted cane cycle. The experiment was conducted in field conditions in the municipality of Carpina, PE. A randomized block design with four replications was used. The varieties' growth analysis was represented by the quantification of the tillers numbers, stalk height and diameter, measured monthly, in eleven periods of cultivation that extended from 60 to 360 days after planting (DAP). The dry matter production was measured from 120 DAP, with sampling intervals of every two months. It was observed that, at 360 DAP, the RB92579 and SP81-3250 varieties showed the highest tillering and dry matter production. The RB813804 and RB72454 varieties had the highest average for height, while the RB72454 and RB867515 varieties presented the largest stalk diameters.
SUMMARYPhosphorus availability in tropical soils may be regulated by the decomposition and mineralization of the labile organic phosphorus fraction (Po); therefore, studies assessing the actual contribution of Po to soil composition are necessary. The objective of this study was to evaluate the total and labile Po content in diagnostic surface horizons of different soil types and to assess which soil properties control the accumulation of these P fractions. Samples of different diagnostic surface horizons were studied, namely histic H and O, chernozemic A, and humic A, collected from several Brazilian states. The total fractions of inorganic P (Pi) and organic P (Po) were determined using the sequential acid-base extraction method, and the labile P fraction was determined by extraction with sodium bicarbonate. The recovery rate of Pi + Po relative to nitric-perchloric extraction of total P (TP) ranged from 46 to 99 %. Total Po ranged from 35 to 1077 mg kg -1 (mean of 298 mg kg -1 ). The labile Po fraction values ranged from 7.2 to 99.5 mg kg -1 (mean of 27.1 mg kg -1 ). Po represented, on average, 36 to 46 % of the total P extracted and over 70 % of the labile P in all diagnostic horizons. TP was the main property driving Po accumulation in soils according to correlation and multiple regression analyses. Horizons with low P adsorption capacity were observed as leading to high Po lability.
RESUMO Growth, yield and phosphorus critical level for okra in relation to phosphate fertilization ABSTRACTThe study aimed to evaluate the growth, productivity attributes and soil P critical level, for okra cultivar, Clemson Spineless, regarding phosphorus fertilization at the seeding. The research was conducted under field conditions, in the Zona da Mata of Pernambuco state, Brazil. The experimental design was a randomized block with six replications. Treatments consisted of doses 0, 8, 16, 32, 65, 130 and 260 kg P 2 O 5 ha -1 . Was evaluated growth, fruit yield, number of fruits per plant and fruit weight. At the end of the growth cycle, was determined critical P level in soil. The plant height and stem diameter adjusted to the sigmoid model, with difference in phosphorus fertilization, in which it was found that application of 130 kg P 2 O 5 ha -1 provided greater plant growth, with values of 123.1 cm and 17.7 mm, respectively. The phosphorus provided increments in productivity attributes, being observed with the addition of 130 kg P 2 O 5 ha -1 , gains of 3.44 Mg ha -1 of fruit, 3.33 fruits per plant. The P availability in soil increased with phosphate fertilization, which made it possible to determine the critical level in 79 mg dm -3 .
