This study investigated the influence of information behaviour and perceived risks on substance use among undergraduates in universities in Ogun State, Nigeria. The study adopted survey research design. The population comprised 82,809 undergraduates in 14 approved private, state and federal universities in Ogun State, Nigeria. Krejcie and Morgan table was used to determine the sample size of 1,513 undergraduates. A two-stage random sampling technique was used to select the respondents. A validated questionnaire was used for data collection. The Cronbach‟s alpha reliability coefficients for the constructs ranged from 0.89 to 0.99. The response rate of 93.9% was achieved. Data were analysed using descriptive and inferential (multiple regression) statistics. Findings showed that information behaviour and perceived risks had no combined significant influence on substance use among undergraduates (Adj R2 = -.001, F(2, 1417)= .627, p>0.05). Additionally, among other findings, it was discovered that information behaviour had a significant influence on substance use among the undergraduates (R2= .022, β = .149, t(1,414)= 6.420, p<0.05 The study concluded that information behaviour and perceived risks did not jointly influence substance use. However, both information behaviour and perceived risks, on individual basis influenced substance use. The study recommended that university management and stakeholders should intensify efforts to increase awareness programs to eradicate substance use on university campuses. Service delivery in the university library is aimed at meeting the information need of users who make up the university community in order to achieve the objective of promoting learning and research. Services delivery of university libraries in the aspect of tangibles and reliability will bring satisfaction to the recognised need of the users. Staff attitude goes a long in library service delivery influences the patronage of the library resources. This study adopted survey research design. The study population comprised 80,247 of library users in university libraries in Ogun State, Nigeria. Krejcie and Morgan (1970) method was used to determine the sample size of 1,513. Stratified random sampling technique was used to categorize the universities into three (federal, state and private). Purposive sampling was used to select the respondent from the different universities in Ogun State. Self-structured and validated questionnaire was the instrument for the study. The instrument’s Cronbach’s alpha coefficient ranged from 0.724 to 0.826. The collected data was analysed using descriptive statistics (frequency, percentages, mean and standard deviation) and regression analysis. The findings of the study showed that library staff delivered quality services in university libraries in Ogun state, Nigeria to a high extent lookingat the tangible (Mean = 3.23, SD = 0.77) and reliability (Mean = 3.20, SD = 0.82). The findings showed that respondents agreed that the staff attitude in university libraries in Ogun State, Nigeria was positive with mean (x̅) = 2.89, SD = 0.93). The study further found out that the staff attitude had a significant influence on service delivery(R2= 0.253, β= 0.503, t = 18.411, p<0.05). The study therefore concluded that staff attitude had a significant influence on service delivery in university libraries in Ogun State, Nigeria. The study recommends that university library board and administrators should employ qualified library staff with the right disposition that can evaluation and assessment users need regularly, be compassionate to users need and display right disposition in any condition to users in order to increase patronage.
This study investigated the influence of peer influence on school library use among public secondary schools in Lagos State, Nigeria. The study adopted survey research design. The study population comprised 16,366 students in public secondary schools in Lagos State. Structured questionnaire was used for the data collection and the Cronbach alpha value ranged from 0.7 to 0.9 which shows that the instrument is valid. Findings showed that students in public secondary schools in Lagos State, Nigeria used school library twice a week (mean = 3.00, SD = 0.79). School library was used daily among students in public secondary schools in Lagos State, in order to enable them to study and perform well in their studies (x̅ = 3.33). The extent of peer influence on library use was moderately high (the mean = 2.91, SD = 0.86). Peer pressure exerted high influence at (x̅ = 3.05) and peer academic value at mean = 2.76. Peer influence has a negative significant influence on school library use among students in public secondary schools in Lagos State, Nigeria (R2 = 0.025, β = -0.157, t = -5.781, p<0.05). Therefore, this study recommends that school administrators and librarian should care for each student in situation where there is negative influence it should be observed and corrected before it becomes a public menace.
This study assessed the relationship between perceived service quality of health information management personnel and patient satisfaction in selected tertiary hospitals in Nigeria. A cross sectional survey was conducted with 280 patients from three tertiary hospitals in a Nigerian State. A self-administered questionnaire was distributed to outpatients who were literate, willing and attending the clinics for at least a second time. Perceived service quality was measured using a modified version of Service Quality (SERVQUAL) scale. Patient satisfaction was measured on a 4-point Likert-type scale developed by the researchers. Collected data were subjected to statistical analysis using mean, standard deviation and regression analysis. The surveyed patients were moderately satisfied with the services of the health information management personnel. Accordingly, patients' perception of the health information management personnel service quality was found to be average. In addition, the research has shown that patients' perception of health information management personnel service quality significantly influence their level of satisfaction in the studied tertiary hospitals (R = .62, F5,274 = 35.95, p = .000). Patient perceptions of service quality determine their overall satisfaction levels with the health information management personnel services. The tangible service quality dimension had more influence on patients' satisfaction.
