Onychomycosis (OM) is a common nail problem, accounting for up to half of all nail diseases. 1 Several nail disorders may mimic the onychomycosis clinically. Therefore, a sensitive, quick, and inexpensive test is essential for screening nail specimens for the proper therapeutic management. The etiological spectrum of any superficial mycosis is largely dependent on the microbial flora in the surrounding environment of the individual. It is influenced by the geographic, climatic and occupational factors.
