Neonatal sepsis has a significant influence on late neurodevelopment at 2 years of corrected age in preterm infants with VLBW, and Gram-positive infections are associated with motor deficit.
It is essential that the follow-up services of at-risk infants have assessment strategies and monitoring of gross motor development of preterm infants; AIMS is an assessment tool indicated to identify atypical motor development in this population.
original 642 RESUMO Objetivo. ABSTRACTObjective. To evaluate the Neuropsychomotor Development (NPMD) in preterm infants and low birth weight. Method. Cross-sectional study, with population of 32 infants linked to the Woman´s Clinic in Chapecó City. Of these, 22 were evaluated with chronological age of 6-10 months and 29 days, through Brunet-Lezine Scale. To know the history of prenatal, perinatal and postnatal period was applied a questionnaire to the children's parents. Results. In relation to the 22 evaluated infants, the development area that more stood out, in alert terms for delay or delay already installed, it was the oculomotor coordination. Five infants of the age group from 6 to 7 months and 29 days and 5 infants in the age group from 8 to 10 months and 29 days presented normal low classification or lower than normal in this area. Most of the infants (n=16) of both age groups needed of urgent measures to breathe and they had respiratory complications after birth (n=11). These biological risk conditions were added to the prematurity and the underweight. Conclusion. The found results reinforce the need to identify earlier the signs of delay in the development of vulnerable infants, making possible the accomplishment of a program of precocious intervention.
Apresentação do Caso. Ressonância Magnética (RM) mostrou o sinal do olho-de-tigre no globo pálido medial. Neurodegeneração Associada a Pantotenato ABSTRACTIntroduction. Neurodegeneration with brain iron accumulation (NBIA) involves a group of progressive extrapyramidal disorders characterised by iron accumulation in the brain. Objective. to describe the gross motor function of a child with clinical diagnosis of NBIA. Method. This is a case report involving a 7-year-old child and clinical diagnosis of NBIA. This study evaluated the history of the disease and the neuromotor functions of the child using a neurological physiotherapy evaluation form. The GMFM -Gross Motor Function Measure, a system of quantitative assessment of gross motor function in five broad dimensions, was applied. Case Presentation. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed the eye-of-the-tiger sign in the medial globus pallidus. Clinical examination presented extrapyramidal signs like dystonia, choreoathetosis, dysarthria and visual impairment. In this case, the combination of clinical and MRI findings was consistent with NBIA. Results. In the A dimension (down and roll) of GMFM, the child achieve a score of 39 points (76% of the gross motor function); in the B dimension (sit) she achieve a total score of 60 points (30% of the function); in the C dimension (crawl and kneel) she achieve a score of 1 point (2% of the function); in the D dimension (standing position) and in the E dimension (walk, run and jump) she did not score in any item. Conclusion. The significant deficit in proximal stability and fre...
