Resumo: Este artigo aborda práticas de letramento acadêmico na iniciação científica de alunos de ensino médio, segundo a concepção dos participantes. Tem o objetivo de analisar as concepções (significados) de orientadores e alunos participantes em termos de aprendizagens, dificuldades e impressões sobre as práticas de letramento acadêmico em que se envolveram os alunos no desenvolvimento de projetos de iniciação científica. Para isso, foram elaborados e aplicados dois questionários: um a alunos e outro a orientadores que desenvolveram projetos de iniciação científica na área de Ciência da Computação, no Campus Pau dos Ferros do Instituto Federal de Educação, Ciência e Tecnologia do Rio Grande do Norte, entre os anos de 2015 e 2017. Para esse estudo, selecionamos algumas questões de ambos os questionários, as quais são analisadas sob uma abordagem prioritariamente qualitativa, com base em reflexões sobre educação pela pesquisa, letramento e letramento acadêmico. Os resultados apontam, segundo a concepção dos participantes, poucas práticas de compreensão e produção de textos acadêmicos. Quando elas ocorriam, eram consideradas por eles como de nível de dificuldade mediano ou difícil. Mesmo assim, eles afirmam que a vivência na iniciação científica acarreta muitas experiências formativas, especialmente de natureza prática, quanto à aprendizagem de conteúdo específico da disciplina. Concluímos, a partir das concepções dos participantes, que não houve, no geral, uma imersão consistente em práticas de letramento acadêmico, uma vez que as atividades parecem focalizar mais a dimensão prática, o que limita o processo de elaboração própria e de (re)construção do conhecimento científico.
