The hydroxyproline/creatinine excretion ratios have been measured in half-hour fasting morning urine specimens from breast cancer patients and compared with corresponding values measured in 24 hour urine collections. Both parameters show a close correlation. The value of the half-hour test in predicting the presence of early bone metastases, in monitoring the response of patients to therapy and in eliminating unwanted effects of dietary Hydroxyproline intake are discussed.
202 patients with breast cancer treated between January 1976 and September 1979 were analyzed. In nulliparous women, cancer appears later than in women who have given birth, whereas diagnosis is usually made earlier in the former. There is no difference in the frequency of axillary metastases in tumors of the same diameter, but the two groups show some difference in hormonal receptor concentration. The classical epidemiological risk factors are rarely found in young women, while they are present in 3 out of 4 patients over 70 years of age. Behavior (aggressivity) of the tumor is independent of the age of the patient.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
