La dermatitis alérgica de contacto es una condición asociada a personas que muestran una mayor sensibilidad a ciertos alérgenos presentes en algunos productos, materiales o sustancias. Los agentes causantes de la dermatitis alérgica de contacto deben ser investigados mediante pruebas de parche. Sin embargo, estas pruebas no siempre se encuentran disponibles en los servicios de salud pública, como en el caso de Guatemala, y la población de escasos recursos no puede costearla, lo que limita el acceso a esta prueba. Es ahí en donde el juicio y análisis clínico toma un lugar importante para poder realizar un diagnóstico apropiado basado en las manifestaciones clínicas del paciente y su historia de la enfermedad. A continuación, se presenta el caso de una paciente de 31 años con diagnóstico clínico de dermatitis alérgica de contacto secundaria al uso de sandalias de hule.
