La transition vers l’âge adulte est un défi majeur pour les jeunes qui quittent le système de protection en France et au Québec à l’atteinte de leur majorité. Ils ont peu de réseaux et de ressources pour les accompagner dans cette transition et, dans ce scénario, les regroupements d’anciens placés sont essentiels pour soutenir ce processus. Ces regroupements ont pour fonction de porter conseil et assistance à ceux qui s’adressent à eux, en plus de représenter les jeunes placés auprès des pouvoirs publics. Peu de travaux francophones éclairent la mobilisation autonome des jeunes par le biais de regroupements les représentant. L’objectif de l’article est de regarder ce que produisent ces regroupements d’entraide sur les individus engagés. Il s’appuie sur des entrevues menées auprès de 20 jeunes Québécois et 23 jeunes Français impliqués dans de tels regroupements. Nous avons remarqué que, par l’engagement, ils construisent quatre types de ressources qui favorisent leur entrée dans la vie adulte : l’entraide, un réseau social soutenant, une socialisation citoyenne et une mobilisation autour des droits des anciens placés. Ces jeunes utilisent le droit comme un moyen de transformation sociale et dans leur répertoire d’actions, favorisant l’accès aux droits des jeunes sortant du système et la capacité à prendre la parole dans l’espace public.
