Objetivo: discute o ensino das disciplinas denominadas de Serviços de Referência e Informação I e Ação Cultural em Unidades de Informação, ambas presentes nos cursos graduação em Arquivologia e em Biblioteconomia e Documentação da Universidade Federal Fluminense (UFF), evidenciando a importância e o diálogo complementar entre ambas disciplinas e sua importância para a formação de arquivistas e bibliotecários enquanto mediadores da informação e da cultura. Descreve as experiências didático-pedagógicas das docentes nas disciplinas mencionadas tanto no que concerne à elaboração do programa da disciplina, quanto em sala de aula. Método: expõe uma revisão de literatura sobre Serviços de Referência e Ação Cultural no âmbito de arquivos e de bibliotecas e realiza uma Análise de Conteúdo, a partir do Método Categorial para analisar as ementas e conteúdos programáticos das disciplinas. Resultado: os resultados demonstram que o diálogo entre as referidas disciplinas proporciona uma formação mais comprometida com a perspectiva social dos cursos de Biblioteconomia e Documentação e de Arquivologia da UFF. Profissionais da informação aptos a serem mediadores da informação e da cultura em seus variados aspectos. O uso de estratégias próprias da sociedade da cibercultura, como compartilhamento, conectividade, interatividade, autoria, colaboração, assim como as ferramentas digitais, permitem que discentes sejam atores ativos no processo de ensino e aprendizagem, e não meros espectadores, em consonância com os ensinamentos de Paulo Freire, a educação para a liberdade. Conclusões: conclui que os Projetos Político-Pedagógico, que instituiu o tronco comum nos currículos dos cursos de Biblioteconomia e Documentação e de Arquivologia da UFF, vêm possibilitando um diálogo profícuo entre essas áreas, em especial, entre as disciplinas de Serviços de Referência e Informação I e Ação Cultural em Unidades de Informação, contribuindo assim para uma formação humanística e social de arquivistas e bibliotecários, que se comprometem com a mediação da informação e da cultura e com a diversidade cultural.
